For CIS subcontractors

The two CIS totals your tax return asks for, added up and checked.

A contractor who takes CIS deductions must give you a payment and deduction statement for each tax month. If you're a sole trader or partner, GOV.UK says your Self Assessment tax return should record “your total pay before deductions were taken” and “the total deductions contractors have taken”.

Upload the statements and get both totals, by contractor, month and tax year, with every deduction checked against the 20% or 30% rate.

How it works

1

Add your statements

From any contractor's software, or photos of paper ones. As many as you have.

2

We read and check them

Each deduction is checked at 20% or 30% of the amount liable shown on the statement (or gross minus materials, if it isn't shown). GOV.UK says VAT, materials and some other costs (such as plant hire and fuel) are taken off first. Missing months and duplicates are flagged.

3

Download one spreadsheet

A ledger of every statement, totals for each tax year and quarter, and a list of anything to check.

Questions

Does it work out my refund?
No. A refund depends on your expenses and other income, so it's for your tax return (or your accountant) to work out. cissplit gives you the two CIS totals the return asks for, checked.
Does it send anything to HMRC?
No. You get a spreadsheet; you use the figures in your own tax return or software.
What if a deduction looks wrong?
It's flagged with what the figures show, and a link to GOV.UK's rules. Check the statement, then ask the contractor. We don't tell you what to claim.
Does it use AI?
Yes, to read each statement. The checks and totals are ordinary arithmetic, and you see every figure before you download.
What happens to my statements?
They're read and then thrown away. We don't store them or the figures; the spreadsheet is made on your own device.
Is this tax advice?
No. It isn't tax, accounting or legal advice: it adds up what's on your statements. Check the figures before you submit anything.
